To start our evening off one of our members, Simona Petrescu, will be offering a workshop entitled Using Tasks in the Classroom in the VHS Bielefeld before we go to the restaurant to enjoy our annual January Get Together meal at the Entrada Restaurant
16:00: Coffee & biscuits
16:30: Workshop Using Tasks in the Classroom led by Simona Petrescu
18:30: End of workshop & Transfer to restaurant
19:15: January Get Together meal at the restaurant
What is there in a task that isn’t there in any other classroom processes? Setting out from the answers to this question, we will explore together three common tasks used in language classrooms to experience typical difficulties for teachers in selecting, setting up and adjusting tasks to various levels of complexity. The session will include a presentation, but will rely extensively on group work, during which issues like:
- cognitive difficulty vs complexity
- fluency vs accuracy vs complexity
- task and language level
- task stages
- student pairing
may be considered.
At the end of the workshop we should leave with a stronger awareness of what aspects of language performance may be stimulated by particular tasks, as well as of the task parameters that teachers can fine-tune for their particular classes.
This year this will be held in Entrada Restaurant from around 19:00 onward and we will be booking the tables at the restaurant a few days prior to the event (28 January 2014) so please book your place by then. There is no charge made by ELTA-OWL for the Workshop but you will pay your own food at the restaurant. ELTA-OWL traditionally buys the first drink of the evening of a social event like this.
The workshop will be held in the VHS Bielefeld at Ravensberger Park 1, 33607 Bielefeld
and the meal will be at the Entrada Restaurant which is at the corner of Werner-Bock-Strasse and Walter-Rathenau-Strasse.
We suggest that if you are travelling by car you park in the car park behind Entrada accessed by Dr-Viktoria-Steinbiß -Strasse and is shared with Jibi Supermarkt, Entrada and some other businesses on Werner-Bock-Strasse.
The walk between the VHS and the restaurant takes between five and ten minutes and is fully lit.
